24th WRNP debate e-Science and big data

To deal with the large volume of information being produced, processed and shared every day, one of the biggest challenges for managers of research institutes in Brazil has been to properly maintain the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) infrastructures aimed at scientific production.

The 24th WRNP will address this theme in a panel focused on e-Science, science carried out collaboratively through the intensive use of ICTs. With guests from Inpe (National Institute for Space Research), LNLS (National Synchrotron Light Laboratory), and SENAI/CIMATEC, the panel will present how these and other major research centers in the country are preparing for the demands of projects involving e-Science and big data.

The deputy director of e-Science and Advanced Cyberinfrastructure at RNP's Research, Development & Innovation (DPDI) department, Leandro Ciuffo, emphasizes the role of academic networks in the collaborative work that characterizes e-Science. “Often, these research groups need to move and transfer data between institutions or download data from a repository and access instruments remotely. In these types of use, academic networks play a key role. Academic networks, such as RNP, offer support, in addition to services to facilitate this data movement. For us, it is very important to monitor and know the demands in order to be able to support researchers in their activities”.

Ciuffo also highlights the importance of the debate taking place at the WRNP. “The WRNP takes place alongside the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (SBRC), and most of our target audience is researchers in the area. We want to introduce researchers to the challenges and demands of large research centers. And so, see how the community of researchers can help. We try to make this match between the challenge of the research center and the research community in this area of distributed systems”, jokes the deputy director.

The coordinator of Supercomputing Data Infrastructure at INPE, Ivan Márcio Barbosa, and the leader of the Data Acquisition and Processing Division (DAP) at LNLS, Daniel Tavares and the manager of the Technological Area of HPC and Cloud, Networks & Security at SENAI -CIMATEC, André Dantas, are the guests of the panel, on May 23, at 10:30 am.

The 24th edition of WRNP will also discuss other cutting-edge subjects, such as Artificial IntelligenceMachine Learning and Open RAN. The event will also present solutions developed with the support of RNP, such as AI tools with application in higher education and technologies that use the metaverse to train medical students.

Registration for the WRNP is still open! The main program of the event will be broadcast free of charge. Click here to subscribe. On the SRBC website, you can also guarantee your spot for the in-person event, at the Royal Tulip hotel, in Brasília.
