- 10/07/2015

The kick-off meeting of the Middleware for Collaborative Applications and Global Virtual Communities (Magic) project was held on June 11 and 12 at the French academic network RENATER, in Paris. The event gathered 29 representatives of academic networks (NRENs) members of Magic, among the RNP’s representative in the project’s Governance Committee, Antônio Carlos Fernandes Nunes, and the coordinator of the work package under the organization’s responsibility, who will discuss the diffusion of identity federations and eduroam to other regions of the world, Leandro Guimarães.

The kick-off meeting was the opportunity for the Magic members to plan and detail the different activities and tasks that should be carried out during the project, ensuring the participation of all world regions. The initiative seeks to establish a set of agreements among the participant localities, with the purpose of consolidating and completing the middleware blocks needed to establish a real-time service and application market for international and intercontinental research groups. That shall facilitate mobility and the work of the global scientific communities.

The creation of such project is directly connected to the success of the Elcira project (Europe Latin America Collaborative e-Infrastructure for Research Activities), which focused on the integration between Latin America and Europe. The goal now is to share the positive results and the lessons learned from the academic networks of other regions.

MAGIC was approved by the European Commission
