The National Education and Research Network (RNP) signed a technical cooperation agreement to start the implementation of Infovia de Mato Grosso (MT), a fiber optic network that will bring high-speed internet to the interior of the state.
In this first phase, the infovia will connect Ribeirãozinho to Alto Garças, in a 180 km stretch, and Ribeirãozinho to Barra do Garças, in a 116 km stretch. The objective is to serve the academic community of the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) and the Federal Institute of Mato Grosso (IFMT), in Barra do Garças, and of the State University of Mato Grosso (Unemat), in the city of Alto Araguaia.
The first stretch, between Ribeirãozinho and Alto Garças, will be a joint construction between RNP and the G8 provider. The second stretch, between Ribeirãozinho and Barra do Garças, will be via optical fiber exchange. The cities are located in the Southeast of Mato Grosso, on the border with Goiás, 334 km from the capital Cuiabá.
The expectation is to stimulate teaching and research in the beneficiary institutions, located on the banks of the Araguaia River, where there are areas of environmental protection and two major biomes: the Cerrado and the Amazon. The project receives R$ 1.5 million in resources from the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT).
