- 24/05/2016

One of the main initiatives dedicated to mobility in the international academic network, eduroam (education roaming) reached the milestone of one billion roaming authentications. Launched in Brazil in 2012, the service of the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP) was developed for the academic network and has had over five million accesses since its deployment in the country.

The initiative allows students, researchers and institutions to have a better internet connection, through a wireless connection (Wi-Fi) inside their campuses and in any place providing this facility as a service provider.

According to Luiz Coelho, RNP’ deputy director of service management, the service has contributed to create a true “global village” of research and development. "The eduroam is highlighted as an example of success in international collaboration. With the service, researchers are able to connect to the internet in different universities and research centers across the globe in a practical, secure manner”.
