RNP was one of the highlights of the column penned by Hermano Vianna, published on April 10, in section Segundo Caderno, of newspaper O Globo. Titled “Brazilian Internet, 20 years old”, the text mentions the role of the organization that “built the backbone of the Brazilian network” and includes an exclusive interview with RNP’s coordinator in 1997, Tadao Takahashi.

The columnist also stresses that RNP was a protagonist at the beginning of the commercial opening of the internet throughout the national territory and mentions that it ordered a study on the social uses that internet could be put to in Brazil.

According to Vianna, “until 1995, our connection to the World Wide Web was only possible from a university, from governmental bodies and from Ibase (Brazilian Institute of Social and Economic Analyses), with its pioneer Alternex”.
