RNP and M-Lab sign MoU to make network performance measurements available for research purposes

RNP and M-Lab (Measurement Lab) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the inclusion of connection speed meters in the RNP network and the availability of these performance measurements for research purposes.

Maintained by Code for Science & Society, M-Lab hosts the world's largest open Internet performance dataset, with around 3 million tests performed daily in 239 countries. As a consortium of research, industry and public interest partners, M-Lab is dedicated to providing an ecosystem for the open and verifiable measurement of global network performance.

Currently, RNP supports working groups on network monitoring and open science. With M-Lab, the consolidation of data from customer connection speed tests to RNP PoPs will be essential to provide a more detailed view of network quality, contributing to the advancement of research in connectivity infrastructure.

To learn more about this partnership and learn how M-Lab works, the Escola Superior de Redes (ESR), together with the Technical Monitoring Committee (CT-Mon), will promote a webinar on 12/8, at 10am, with professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) Edmundo Souza e Silva. In the webinar, the importance of this cooperation for the network research community will also be discussed. Register here.
