This Friday (March 9th), RNP signed a technical cooperation agreement with Eletrosul to share infrastructure between the two institutions. The agreement signing official ceremony was held at the state company headquarters in Florianópolis. The Eletrosul Chief Operating Officer, Rogério Bonini Ruiz, RNP’s Engineering and Operations director, Eduardo Grizendi, RNP’s Institutional Relations deputy director, Gorgonio Araújo, and Eletrosul Telematics director, Celso Soares Pereira were present at the table.

The investments will be made in three stages until 2020, both in lighting with 100 Gbps DWDM optic technology of fibre optics pairs of the company, and in the expansion of power systems infrastructure necessary for this lighting. “The partnership with Eletrosul consolidates in the South region the project to provide 100 Gbps scalability to RNP’s backbone in several regions of the country, according to our strategic goals, allowing researchers to be served with high capacity and quality services, both in the major centres and in countryside cities”, explains RNP’s Engineering and Operations director, Eduardo Grizendi. According to him, multiple 100 Gbps channels can be built, a speed ten times higher than the one offered today in the national academic network to the main capital cities.

The partnership will allow RNP to use Eletrosul fibre optics infrastructure to expand the capacity of the academic network that takes high performance connection to education and research institutions. There will be over 5,000 Km of fibre optics lit in stages 1, 2 and 3 of the project. The initiative has the potential to serve around 70 cities and at least 50 campuses of academic institutions may be connected at 100 Gbps speed in the South and Mid-West regions. High-speed connections will also be possible on the border with Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay.

On the other hand, Eletrosul will have a telecommunication system to supervise and control its electric power transmission systems, technologically updated to 100 Gbps, modern and easily scalable, and that meets the telecommunication demands of other activities in the company, providing better quality in the service to its associates and end customers. “This partnership with RNP will provide the modernization and update of Eletrosul telecommunications network, in addition to the connection expansion and improvement of operational efficiency. From the social point of view, it represents a substantial increase in the quality and speed of the academic network access in Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso do Sul”, highlights the Eletrosul Chief Operating Officer, Rogério Bonini Ruiz.
