The Ministries of Education (MEC) and of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) will launch on Wednesday, March 30th, at 09:30 a.m., the Educational Ring (Anel Educacional, in portuguese), a metropolitan communication infrastructure to provide support to education and research, deemed to be the fastest in Latin America, for it is the only one of this kind with a 40 Gbps connection capacity.

The infrastructure is connected to the metropolitan network of the Federal District, GigaCandanga, and is one of seven bodies connected to both Ministries. They are the University of Brasília (UnB), the Brazilian Center of Research in Assessment and Selection and Promotion of Events (Cebraspe), the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), the Anísio Teixeira National Institute of Educational Studies and Researches (Inep), the Brazilian Company of Hospital Services (Ebserh) and the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE) and the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP).

Among other duties, the Educational Ring ensures security in the access to the Ministries’communication networks, makes 99.99% of the connected systems and bodies available to the population, supports the achievement of the goals of the National Education Plan (PNE), interconnects the institutional databases, facilitating the exchange of information between the bodies with greater speed, shares computational resources among the datacenters and provides redundant Internet access, through the Autonomous System of the Ministry of Education (AS-MEC).
