Computer researchers who want to present papers at the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (SBRC) should pay attention to submission deadlines. Most of the workshops and activities that are part of the event will receive submissions by the end of the first half of March.

Coordinated by the Institute of Mathematical and Computational Sciences (ICMC) of USP, in São Carlos, and by the computer department of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), the 36th SBRC will be held from May 6th to 10th at the Centro de Convenções de Campos do Jordão, in the countryside of São Paulo. Recognized as the most important national scientific event in computer networks and distributed systems, the SBRC is promoted annually by the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) and by the National Laboratory of Computer Networks (LARC). RNP participates in the event with its workshop, the WRNP, for the R&D community in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

Traditionally, the initiative consists of workshops, tool room, lectures, mini-courses, panels and debates, technical sessions and tutorials given by internationally renowned guests. This year, for the first time, the SBRC will have a challenge (hackathon) in the area of computer networks and distributed systems, as well as a contest of theses and dissertations. "This year, we will have seven workshops in total, including one on blockchain, in which we will talk, for example, about bitcoin, a topic that is much discussed nowadays", says Professor Jó Ueyama of the ICMC/USP, one of the SBRC general coordinators.

The complete schedule of the event is available at www.sbrc2018.ufscar.br/apresentacao(link is external). Here are some deadlines for submitting papers:

Contest of theses and dissertations: March 2nd;
Workshop on management and operation of networks and services: March 13th;
Workshop on scientific initiation and graduation papers: March 15th;
Workshop on blockchain; Workshop on cybersecurity in connected devices; Workshop on urban computing; Workshop on tests and failure tolerance: March 16th;
