Passing of Artur Ziviani

- 26/03/2021

RNP is profoundly saddened by the passing of professor and researcher Artur Ziviani, on 24/3, due to complications caused by Covid-19. He leaves behind a wife and two children, in addition to numerous friends and colleagues.

Ziviani graduated in electronic engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where he also completed a master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on computer networks. He was a senior researcher at the National Laboratory of Scientific Computing (LNCC), and since 2008, he was also part of the history of RNP.

At RNP, Artur Ziviani was part of the Board of Directors between 2008 and 2012 as a representative of the National Laboratory of Computer Networks (LARC). In these four years, with his strategic vision, he helped RNP target its business.

The researcher was also a member of the Technical Committee for Network Monitoring (CT-Mon) since its creation in 2011 and coordinated CT-Mon between 2014 and 2020. During this period, he expanded the objectives of the committee and brought in new members to promote technological prospecting and follow up major scientific and technological advances in network performance monitoring. All meetings and events related to the committee were marked by Artur's main characteristics: a joyful listener to his partners and a dedicated transmitter of knowledge.

We extend our sincere condolences to Artur Ziviani's family and friends.
