RNP shares the experience of the LGPD Program pilot at INCA with the health community

In the last week, on 3/30, the webinar “LGPD and digital transformation in health” took place. The meeting brought together the health community and the discussion was guided by the pilot experience of RNP's LGPD Program at the National Cancer Institute (INCA), which ended on 3/24.

The webinar was attended by the advisor to the Board of Directors of the National Data Protection Agency (ANPD), Lucas Borges, the director of Institutional Relations of the Brazilian Society of Health Informatics (SBIS), Luis Klatake, the consultant lawyer of RNP, Fabiani Borges, RNP's consultant in Privacy, Carlos Machado, the national coordinator of the University Telemedicine Network (RUTE/RNP), Luiz Ary Messina, the specialist of the University Telemedicine Network (RUTE/RNP), Paulo Lopes, and the manager of Information Security at the Security Incident Response Center (CAIS/RNP), Liliana Solha. On average, 60 spectators were present during the discussion.

Pilot project of the LGPD Program at INCA

The pilot project is part of RNP's LGPD Program, which offers methodological, advisory and educational support to the institutions of the RNP System, in order to assist them in the necessary actions to comply with the law already in force. At INCA, RNP worked, more specifically, on the pillar of methodological support.

Methodological support operates on three fronts:

RNP method for LGPD

A methodology developed by RNP that presents a concise and objective adaptation cycle to the LGPD, considering the specificities and characteristics of the teaching, research, health and innovation communities. In 2023, a 2.0 version of this method will be released.

SIG-LGPD@RNP

Forum that brings together, at each edition, a group of representatives of institutions that are part of the RNP System. The purpose of the meetings is to discuss with specialists topics related to Privacy and the General Law for the Protection of Personal Data (LGPD). In the first edition, 23 institutions participated. In the second, 30 were selected. In 2023, RNP will select 100 new institutions for the new cycle.

LGPD Pilot

The pilot is carried out annually in an institution that is part of the RNP System and aims to support the chosen organization in its adequacy project and, mainly, to validate the RNP Method. Each year, an institution from a different area is chosen to serve as a benchmark for suitability for the entire sector. In the first cycle, UFBA was the representative of the class of higher education institutions. In the second cycle, the health area was chosen, as it is a critical sector that handles a large amount of sensitive data. In 2023, the pilot will take place in a research facility.

According to Liliana Solha, the need to comply with the LGPD is for all Brazilian institutions. “Our teaching, research and innovation community has its particularities and, through this project, we seek to support our institutions in adapting to the law”, she says.

The Information Security manager also adds: "The choice of institutions from different sectors makes us know their particularities in more depth. The pilot helps us to know in more detail the infrastructures and particularities of each area, and the participating institution becomes a model for other adaptations. In addition, it validates the methodology that RNP is developing. With each new version, we incorporate the pilot's experiences into the LGPD Method".

The pilot marks yet another successful cycle of the LGPD Method. For more information, visit the page of the LGPD Program
