Internet Brasil reaches more than six thousand students in the Northeast

- 12/12/2022

The Ministry of Communications (MCom) concluded the distribution of chips from the Internet Brasil Program, carried out by RNP, to 15 schools in the public basic education network in the cities of Mossoró (RN), Caicó (RN), Caruaru (PE), Petrolina (PE), Juazeiro (BA) and Campina Grande (PB). With the equipment, 6,250 students from the 3rd year will have 20 gigabytes (Gb) per month to access the Internet via mobile broadband.

Students from the six northeastern municipalities are part of the 10,000 students selected in the first phase of the Proof of Concept (PoC) – the program's pilot project. The action also benefits the students' families, as the technology can be used inside and outside the school units.

The chips allow for remote activation or deactivation by RNP, making it possible to change operators if necessary. Online privacy is also guaranteed, as the operation complies with all the requirements of the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) and individual monitoring of users' browsing is not carried out.

Event at the Planalto Palace

On the afternoon of 12/7, MCom held the ceremony "5G Brazil - the legacy of a connected country", at Palácio do Planalto, which honored the main actors who contributed to the advances in mobile technology in the country. The event also marked the delivery of Internet Brasil chips and RNP was present represented by the Solutions manager's team, Hélder Vitorino, responsible for running the program on the organization's side.

Learning Space

The Internet Brasil program was instituted by Law 14.351/22 and aims to enrich the learning process beyond the walls of the school. Pedagogical use is one of the main objectives of the program, but not the only one.

The distribution of free chips also intends to democratize access to the Internet, since the families of these students will also benefit from the connection. They will be able to communicate more effectively with their children's school and teachers, in addition to having direct access to information.
