Identity Management: What is it and why is it important?
Identity Management or GId, or Identity and Access Management consists of a set of processes and technologies to manage identities of people, services and things, as well as the relationship and trust between these. This feature can be used to ensure the identity of an entity and to provide authentication, authorization, accountability and auditing procedures.
Faced with the accelerated digital transformation resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, the constant evolution of technologies, the needs of users and companies for security, protection of personal data and usability, the GId area is relevant and arouses interest from academia, government and companies.
The National Education and Research Network (RNP) offers the Brazilian academic community some services related to GId, namely:
- Federated Academic Community (CAFe)
- Public Key Infrastructure for Teaching and Research (ICPEdu)
- Eduroam
Identity Management Technical Committee
The Identity Management Technical Committee (CT-GId), composed of members of RNP and the academic community, was constituted by RNP in 2010 and its mission is to prospect innovative identity management solutions based on medium and long-term research for the RNP system, promoting culture, raising awareness and encouraging the use of digital identities in Brazil.
This prospection aims to become a source of reference and support the activities of RNP's Identity Management Advisory Committee (CA-GId), which can generate a direct impact for RNP and its user institutions.
The National Education and Research Network (RNP) has the public notice open for the 2022 Identity Management Program. We invite research groups with experience in the field of Identity Management (GId) to present proposals for conceptual studies or for the execution of proofs of concept that contribute to the prospection and identification of RD&I challenges in the GId area.
Access the 2022 Identity Management Program notice.
