24th WRNP launches Hackers do Bem, to qualify cybersecurity professionals

The 24th RNP Workshop (WRNP) will launch, as a highlight in its programming, Hackers do Bem (Good Hackers, in free translation), a program aimed at training qualified professionals in cybersecurity and privacy. Focusing on the main trends in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), WRNP 2023 will take place on May 22 and 23 in a hybrid format: face-to-face in Brasília, with online transmission of the main programming.

Hackers do Bem is funded by the ICT Law, which allows financial credits to be generated from investment by companies in the sector in research, development and innovation. It is a partnership between RNP, Senai and Softex, a social organization for digital transformation. In the program's presentation panel, on May 22, at 4 pm, Lisandro Granville, Deputy Director of Research, Development and Innovation at RNP, will speak about the opportunities for research groups in this project, which will have public calls soon.

Towards a national cybersecurity ecosystem

Hackers do Bem intends to train qualified professionals in cybersecurity and privacy, with five courses at the levels of leveling, basic, fundamental, specialized and technological residency. For the first level, for example, the objective is to recruit at least 30,000 students from technical, secondary and higher education students, and professionals looking for specialization or a career change. The teaching platform will be free and will feature videos, quizzes, animations, live classes and theoretical and practical exercises using simulators. The content of the courses bears the seal of quality from Senai and from the Escola Superior de Redes of RNP.

RNP's deputy director of cybersecurity, Emilio Nakamura, highlights the relevance of the program for the specialized training of Brazilians. “It reinforces the importance of cybersecurity in the digital society, dealing with one of the main challenges in the area, the shortage of professionals. In Brazil alone, there are more than 300,000 vacancies that are not filled due to lack of cybersecurity professionals. In addition to developing cybersecurity skills, impacting the market and all sectors, Hackers do Bem establishes mechanisms for integration and synergy with different actors in the teaching, research, innovation and information security ecosystems”, explains Nakamura.

The project also intends to build a national cybersecurity hub to strengthen the Brazilian ecosystem. The idea is that it is an environment for interaction and integration between institutions, government, regulators, companies, startups, students and associations.

“Hackers do Bem promotes cybersecurity education and strengthens the Brazilian scientific area with actions that disseminate and create paths for technological development in security. In addition, with the hub, channels and connections will be created with different actors, from students to companies, enhancing synergies so that the necessary advances in the development of people, processes and technologies are made in sustainable and evolutionary cycles”, concludes Nakamura.

The WRNP will be at the Hotel Royal Tulip in Brasilia, on May 22nd and 23rd, alongside the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (SBRC). Click here to secure your spot at the in-person event.

Those who do not attend in person will be able to follow the free live transmission of the main program of the event. Just access the WRNP website and choose the “Online Only” option.
