Keynote speaker at the event, Yasodara Córdova calls for investments in research in the area

In an increasingly digital world, collecting, processing and sharing data has become part of everyday life for millions of people. To broaden the debate on the protection of this information, the RNP Forum 2022, which has Cybersecurity and Privacy as its theme, incorporates a vast program with lectures, panels, workshops and flashtalks (presentations of up to 10 minutes) with leading specialists in the field. Free and online, the event will be from August 30th to September 1st. That means there's still time to sign up.

Internet privacy activist for over 15 years and main Privacy Researcher at Unico, IDTech pioneer in digital identity solutions in Brazil, Yasodara Córdova is one of the keynote speakers confirmed at the Forum. In her lecture, she will address people's relationship with privacy in online environments. She will also talk about how technologies can contribute to preserving this privacy and the autonomy of users over their own data.

“By sharing a knowledge building space, we are going to talk about the current scenario and the advances in Brazil regarding the subject, as well as the risks faced and what we can do to mitigate them. Thus, we are going to advance in the privacy agenda, a factor for the inclusion and democratization of society”, says Yasodara.

For the specialist, who has already worked in the government and in the private sector, the lack of solid investments in cybersecurity and privacy research already causes significant impacts on society, such as the greater frequency of episodes of personal data leakage. To face these threats, it is necessary to raise discussions on the subject, in order to contribute to the consolidation of a safe and transparent environment for companies and people.

“As the RNP Forum is a milestone to broaden the debate, guide trends and strengthen the large network of scholars in the country linked to Information and Communication Technologies, it is extremely important to bring this to the surface and demand investments and modernization of the research apparatus in these areas in Brazil, evolving from the military to the civilian area,” she points out.

Another keynote speaker confirmed at the Forum is the director of the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD), Miriam Wimmer. In a context of adaptation to the General Law for the Protection of Personal Data (LGPD), created in 2018 to protect the freedom and privacy of Brazilians, Miriam will address the existing challenges for higher education institutions and companies that invest in research in what concerns the processing of personal data in the context of applied research, scientific production and innovation. With experience at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations and at the Ministry of Communications, she is also a professor of the Masters in Law at the Institute of Development and Research (IDP), in Brasília.

Annually, the Forum of the National Education and Research Network (RNP) selects big names in the area chosen as the main theme to debate, with the scientific community and the general public, subjects with an impact on teaching, research, health, culture and advocacy, among others. This year, the event will be divided into three axes: management, innovation and technology. Check the full schedule here.
