Aprenda Mais Platform Offers 90 courses from federal institutions online for free

- 28/09/2021

Now, anyone over the age of 12 who is interested in studying and becoming a professional, with certification, in one of 12 different areas of knowledge has at their disposal at least 90 free online courses, developed by institutions of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education, on the Aprenda Mais platform. The virtual environment has several contents lasting between 20h and 60h, with no limit on seats, serves up to 10,000 simultaneous users and should offer 300 courses by 2024, with the inclusion of tools for accessibility for the deaf next year. The tool is a solution promoted by the Secretariat of Professional and Technological Education (Setec) of the Ministry of Education (MEC) and one of the 14 projects launched in the first edition of the National Week of Professional and Technological Education, held last week, on September 23rd and 25th.

In addition to strengthening the role of Professional and Technological Education in generating opportunities, employment and income and promoting new technologies, the event is part of the strategic agenda of the Novos Caminhos program, which has three main lines of action. They are: Articulation and Strengthening; Management and Results; Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The Articulation and Strengthening axis, of which the Aprenda Mais platform is a part, intends to support educational networks and institutions in planning the offer of courses in line with the demands of the productive sector and in incorporating the transformations produced by the processes of technological innovation.

At the opening of the event, on September 23, the Secretary of Professional and Technological Education, Tomás Dias Sant'Ana announced: “Our objective is to ensure that professional and technological education is always a path to the future”.

Also on the first day of the event, the director general of RNP, Nelson Simões, was invited to compose the table of authorities of the Articulation and Strengthening Axis and spoke about RNP's support in the movement to strengthen public policies for education and research, especially in technological education. “A broad vision of RNP's role implies providing digital services for organizations in the Federal Network, which are simple, secure and that can be scalable, with low cost”, he began.

And then he explained: "Simple because the new learning methodologies require this, on campus or not. They should be technologies that relieve teachers and managers in complexity. Safe because technologies in education require respect for the security of applications, of data and people, with expansion of the perimeter, as we are no longer just on campus, but also in homes and places on the move. Scalable because institutions will only be able to innovate if there is excess capacity. We want to scale to innovate, undertake and meet new demands of this new model of learning and teaching. Low cost because we understand that education is essential and that, therefore, those minors will have high quality because we are doing it in a community way. And the launch of the Aprenda Mais platform reflects all of this very well”. Watch the presentation of the Axis:

The launch of the Aprenda Mais platform took place on Friday (9/24). RNP was present at the event at a technical table on the platform, represented by the services analyst, Mateus Oliveira. Watch:

The launch of the digital environment is the result of a partnership between RNP, the Secretariat of Professional and Technological Education (Setec) of the MEC and the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS). With support from Setec, IFRS was responsible for customizing the platform and managing the courses offered, while RNP worked on four fronts:

1. Infrastructure – RNP built a computational architecture capable of supporting thousands of accesses simultaneously, using cloud computing

2. Information security – The entire platform has been adapted to comply with the General Law for the Protection of Personal Data (LGPD). Several intrusion tests were also carried out to avoid security incidents.

3. Risks - Work was also carried out to map and manage the platform's risks, as well as the entire project.

4. Support - RNP operates and supports the infrastructure, which guarantees the high availability of the platform and currently supports 10 thousand simultaneous accesses.
