RNP deeply regrets the death of Otto Carlos Muniz Bandeira Duarte, professor and researcher at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), on 9/4. He was one of the most active researchers in the distributed networks and systems community.

Member of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), he has actively participated in the annual events of the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks (SBRC), held in conjunction with the RNP Workshop (WRNP) since 2003.

Professor Otto was part of the Board of Directors of RNP between 2003 and 2004, as a representative of the SBC. During this period, he helped RNP by bringing his experience as a professor and researcher. In addition, he coordinated the Virtual Networks on the Internet of the Future (Revir) project, managed by CTIC/RNP, and was leader of the Teleinformatics and Automation Group (GTA) at Coppe/UFRJ, which had researchers in charge of academic coordinations from different RNP Working Groups. Otto also contributed directly to the academic training of the organization's professionals.
