See the trends in identity management, Blockchain, network monitoring of networks, and video collaboration

RNP coordinates Technical Committees formed by researchers from several academic institutions in Brazil on the subjects of network monitoring, identity management, Blockchain, video collaboration, and digital health. The main objective of these committees is to follow developments in these areas of knowledge, prospect technological solutions, and make recommendations in an advisory capacity.

These visions of the future were compiled into documents that show the state of the art in these areas of knowledge, based on scientific publications of last year, and reflect the opinion of the members of each committee. See below some of these trends:

Identity Management

Identity Management (IdM) is an active research topic that incorporates a set of processes and technologies to manage the identities of people, services, and things. This means that IdM can be used to ensure the identity of an entity and provide procedures for authentication, authorization, accountability, and auditing.

In its vision of the future report, CT-GId identifies authentication challenges in IoT, 5G, and cloud service scenarios in a model of zero trust, among others.

Blockchain

Blockchain is considered a technology with great disruptive potential because it digitally creates a decentralized trust network, allowing for the establishment of transactions between parties without the need for intermediaries. In this context, the articulation of a network of cooperation in research and development is vital for the promotion of this ecosystem in Brazil.

In their vision for the future, the Technical Committee of Blockchain identified, among other actions, the need to establish a network for experimentation on Blockchain (testbed), the collective construction of governance standards, and the development of decentralized digital identity services.

Network monitoring

Network monitoring is fundamental to ensure the optimal use of services and applications, particularly scientific ones, and support the diagnosis and resolution of performance issues effectively.

The Technical Committee in Network Monitoring (CT-Mon) identified as a trend the increasing adoption of Machine Learning techniques aiming at better network performance and management and the use of bandwidth telemetry.

It was also possible to observe a significant number of studies as a result of the change of behavior of users because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Video collaboration

The CT-Video, video collaboration was discontinued in 2021 and was replaced by the Technical Committee on Digital Health.

In its last future vision report, CT-Video listed trends such as ultra-high-definition transmission to support practical initiatives in Telemedicine and Telehealth; the creation of new methods to improve the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and the communication of multiple users; the creation and evolution of protocols to orchestrate distinct audio and video streams, and the evolution of videoconferencing systems supported by Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing. The document also describes the discussions of the panel: "What would an ideal online event be like?" held during the Web media 2020 event.

Digital Health

In the face of the growing number of applications in health, the Technical Committee for Education and Research in Technological Prospecting in Digital Health (CT-Digital Health) has as motivations: the increase in the number of RNP projects and collaborative networks on health; the digital transformation underway in health, in addition to the demand for broad and comprehensive analyses about the technological development of products, applications, and services in the industry.  Since this is the youngest committee, its future vision report is still in the drafting stages.
