Government of Paraíba enters partnership with Finep to expand the state network

The Government of Paraíba, through the Research Foundation (Fapesq), signed an agreement with the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep) to give continuity to the construction of the High-Performance Network of Paraíba, Repad, a state InfoPath that, in the next stages of the project, may be expanded to 49 cities in Paraíba, connecting research and higher education institutions in the interior of the state.

Repad is an initiative by the state government through the Executive Secretariat of Science and Technology, which, in turn, has a cooperation agreement signed with RNP. Currently, in its first stage, the InfoPath goes through the Cabedelo, João Pessoa, Santa Rita, and Campina Grande route, with 281 kilometers of fiber optics and 88 institutions connected.

In the cooperation agreement with RNP, four metropolitan networks are being built in the cities of Santa Rita, Patos, Sousa, and Cajazeiras (PB). With the resources received by Fapesq from Finep, the InfoPath can be expanded, already in the second stage, for a long-distance stretch of about 200 km between Campina Grande and Patos.

To the Director of Engineering and Operations of RNP, Eduardo Grizendi, the cooperation with Fapesq to deploy Repad brought great benefits already in its first stage: the sharing of the metropolitan network of João Pessoa and deployment of fiber optics channels of very high speed, 100 Gb/s, between Joao Pessoa and Campina Grande.

"In the next stages, we will build metropolitan networks and long-distance stretches and, with this, we increase the capillarity of the optical infrastructure to meet the needs of our users in state institutions," said the manager.
