Experimentation Platform supports evolution of the Video@RNP service and research of Ph. D. students at USP

At the end of July, the Software Defined Infrastructure (IDS) project was completed, developed based on the agreement signed between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), RNP and the Telecommunication Development Research Center (CPQD); however, this doesn´t mean that infrastructure was left behind. On the contrary. Now, a new challenge was started, to offer it for R&D activities of RNP itself and the research community.

Within this context, the Experimentation Platform created by the result from the project has already been supporting researchers at two fronts: the evolution of the Video@RNP and the validation of the ideas proposed in their academic research in the doctor´s degree.

Samuel Kopp, who studies doctor´s degree at USP and partner founder of the startup BrainyIT, a company that provides Video@rnp, has been using the benefits created by the IDS platform.  Check the testimonial out:

“The growth in the use of video in different contexts has motivated the evolution of the video platforms and the content distribution systems. In this context, RNP and BrainyIT has been working on the development of their video platform, Video@RNP, getting better for these new times. One of the characteristics of this new platform is the use of the Cloud Native Application” paradigm and the use of Kubernetes as an orchestration platform.

My doctor´s degree research paper is associated with this context, in which the use of distributed cloud infrastructures is explored to implement a video distribution service that optimizes the use of this infrastructure by means of Machine Learning.

RNP Experimentation Platform has been very important for the development of these activities.

The access to an innovative platform, state-of-art infrastructure and a team specialized in technological innovation enabled BrainyIT to develop the new version of the video platform with last-generation resources, exploring the cloud computing resources as much as possible.

In parallel, this platform has always been used to make the necessary experiments to validate the ideas proposed in my academic research.

Furthermore, attending meetings and seminars of the R&D team enabled expanding my research horizons and producing insights for the evolution of my work.”

About the Software Defined Infrastructure (IDS)
The IDS infrastructure works as an external environment for pilot development, where delivering of new features to develop expertise and enable joint R&D between RNP internal areas and external partners is focused. The pilots, who are successful in IDS, will be used to create a roadmap for evolution of the RNP IT and Telecom cyber-infrastructures.
