One of the goals defined by the cooperation between the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP) and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa, in Portuguese) is the provision of free video lessons to disseminate information related to research in the agricultural sector and sustainable practices. Already available on the Videoaula@RNP platform, the first lesson deals with the topic “Composting”, which is a kind of recycling of organic waste to generate a fertilizer that can be used both in agriculture and in gardens.

For the Embrapa researcher, Ronessa Bartolomeu de Souza, who prepared the script and presented the video lesson, “This is an important teaching and learning tool that enables greater proximity to the public with technical-scientific content, using a simple language, without the need of onsite lessons”, she says.

“The purpose is to disseminate information of interest to both the academic community and society as a whole. Composting, for example, consists in reusing organic waste to transform it into a soil-like material, called a compound, which is characterized as a product of great value as a natural fertilizer”, emphasizes the RNP’s Solutions manager, Christian Miziara.

He explains that the cooperation between the institutions also includes the provision of other advanced services, which RNP provides to the teaching and research community. “Other deliveries that are being carried out for Embrapa are the implementation of high capacity access to its decentralized and difficult access units, training of professionals through our Networks School (ESR), support for R&D actions and introduction of advanced services, such as IP telephony (phone@RNP) and the platform for managing and distributing digital content (ICD)”, Miziara explains.
