Between April 5 and 12, representatives of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (PFUR) complied with several commitments in the country within the agenda of the BRICs, a group that brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China and Africa. The institution plays a leading role in telemedicine and in 2014 was responsible for including the topic in the agenda of the Ministries of Science and Technology of the countries composing the group

The delegation was composed of the Chairman of the Board of the National Telemedicine Agency of Russia, Dr. Mikhail Natenzon; The head of the Department of Telemedicine and Informatics and Health of PFUR, Dr. Konstatin Sidelnikov, and the Dean’s Office of the institution, Dr. Svetlana Kuhno.

During the period, the visitors were in three cities - Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Brasilia. In Rio, Mikhail Natenzon participated by videoconference of the Congress of MedTel, of the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth (ISfTeH), held in Luxembourg on 5/4.

On April 7, 10 and 12/4, Natenzon and Konstatin Sidelnikov gave three lectures to the community of the Telemedicine University Network (Rute) by videoconference on specific topics related to the area. In all, 12 institutions, including universities and hospitals, were connected to virtual meetings.

Also in Rio, the delegation visited the presidency of the National Cancer Institute (Inca), the Institute of Psychiatry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Ipub/UFRJ) and Pedro Ernesto University Hospital, State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj), where a cooperation agreement was signed with the Dean of UERJ, Ruy Garcia Marques, for projects between the two universities.

In Belo Horizonte, on April 10 and 11, representatives of PFUR attended the Medical School of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), where a cooperation project was also conducted and a meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the resumption of activities of the eHealth Technical Advisory Group.

In Brasília, on the 12th, the Russian delegation participated in a meeting focused on the agenda of the BRICs, together with the international advisory services of the Ministries of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC), Health (MS), Education (MEC), the teaching and research direction of the Brazilian Company for Hospital Services (Ebserh) and the direction of the Brazilian Telehealth Network Networks Program. The meeting resulted in the production of a technical note in support of the forthcoming Bric meetings in China.

According to the national coordinator of Rute, Luiz Ary Messina, cooperation with Russia can contribute to the advancement of telemedicine in the Bric member countries in a more integrated way. “Telemedicine is a transdisciplinary area, which depends on the Ministries of Health, Education and Science and Technology. First, it is necessary to understand the topics to integrate it into the agenda of the three ministries of the Member States before the Brics meetings”, he said.
