RNP participates of annual conference of Mozambique academic network

On November 11 and 12 of 2019, the 2019 MoRENet Conference was held in Maputo, Mozambique, with the theme “MoRENet, interconnecting the Academic and Scientific Mozambique Communities to Global Networks of Science and Technology.” The event is conducted by the Brazilian Department of Science and Technology, Higher Education and Professional Technical Education (MCTESP) through the Network Project of Higher Education and Investigation Institutions of Mozambique (MoRENet).

 The conference received more than 50 user teaching and research institutions and aimed to present the level of implementation of the activities developed by this network of Mozambique. Its program approached the themes of Strategic Plan of 2018-2025 MoRENet, in the areas of Infrastructure, Systems, Applications and Services, High Performance Computing, Cybernetic Security, Formation in the MoRENet Academy, among others.

RNP was represented by the managing director assessor Pilar de Almeida, who took part in two program sessions. She emphasized the right moment within the scope of the RNP-MoRENet cooperation to initiate actions to bring research communities closer to initiatives such as the University Network of Telemedicine (RUTE), the Cinemas em Rede project, the Brazilian Biodiversity Information System (SiBBr), among others.

The conference also counted with the participation of representatives of Angola Cables and managing director of Ubuntunet. On the occasion, the director of MoRENet, Lourino Chemane, sought to articulate solutions for the connection of Mozambique to Brazil via South Africa, through the company Angola Cables, which will launch the first submarine cable directly connecting the two continents in 2020.
