RedCLARA launches first global blockchain network alongside LACNIC and BID Lab

- 24/02/2022

On February 23, the Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks (RedCLARA) held a webinar for the launch of LACNet, the first global blockchain network in enterprise-scale production. The initiative is the result of a partnership between RedCLARA and Lacnic (Internet Address Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean), together with the Innovation Laboratory of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB Lab), within the LACChain regional program.

According to RedCLARA, the new network will allow organizations, governments and companies to add their projects to an infrastructure with the quality assurance required by this type of interested entities. It is a single network; it is, at the same time, open, governed, in accordance with the legislation, ecological and focused on inclusion.

The event was attended by the executive director of RedCLARA, Luis Eliécer Cadenas, the executive director of LACNIC, Óscar Robles, the general manager of the IDB Lab, Irene Arias, the specialist of the IDB Lab and leader of LACChain, Alejandro Pardo, and the specialist from the Technology Department of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Technical Leader of LACChain, Marcos Allende, with the mediation of LACNet's Business Development Manager, Ilán Meléndez, who presented technical characteristics, use cases and the benefits of the new network for Latin America.

About Blockchain

Blockchain is one of the emerging technologies with the greatest potential for market transformation and inclusion impact, for its ability to guarantee data ownership to vulnerable populations, promoting access to social, economic and financial services, in addition to providing a digital identity.

In this sense, LACNIC, RedCLARA and the IDB Lab have joined forces to continue driving the development of a blockchain ecosystem that is inclusive, efficient and secure. The alliance intends to expand the benefits of this technology to all populations, organizations, companies, academic and research communities in the region.

On 2/14, RNP participated in the signing of the agreement for the development of a blockchain ecosystem in Latin America alongside other academic networks in the region: CEDIA (Ecuador), CUDI (Mexico), RAGIE (Guatemala), RAU (Uruguay), RedCONARE (Costa Rica), REUNA (Chile), RENATA (Colombia), REDNESAH (Honduras), RUNBA (Nicaragua) and RedCLARA.
