RDA-Brazil completes six months of activity: Join the group

The Brazilian knot of the Research Data Alliance – RDA-Brazil group, is completing six months of activities and aims to amplify its participant base to reinforce the contribution of the country in the global discussions about management of scientific data and Open Science.

The group was created with the purpose to serve as a neutral and democratic space for exchange of information among researchers, research data managers, data scientist, public policy-makers, Information Science professionals and other actors interested in sharing initiatives and best practices of sharing, reuse and management of research data.

Currently, the group coordination is provided by the representatives of the institutions: Embrapa, Fiocruz, Ibicit, RNP and the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC).

In addition to Brazil, more than 20 countries and regions have national groups available in the RDA platform. Totally, there are 90 discussion groups categorized according to scientific subjects, research challenges or topics related to scientific data management or infrastructure.

The desire to create a Brazilian branch of RDA started in 2015, when Michael Stanton, director of Research & Development of the National Education and Research Network (RNP) at that time, was indicated as a member of the international board of RDA, but the group started working in September 2019 led by the researcher Patrícia Bertin from Embrapa. Currently, professor Claudia Maria Bauzer Medeiros from Unicamp is one of the 8 members of the RDA board, who is responsible for the general supervision of the activities, strategic definition and sustainability of RDA.

About Research Dara Alliance (RDA)

It is an international initiative that aims to establish the technical and social connections  necessary for the open sharing of scientific data.
