Representatives of RNP participated in the Géant Network Conference (TNC18), which gathered over 650 representatives of academic networks worldwide, between 10th and 14th of June in Norway. The annual meeting, organized by Géant, presented a unique vision of the latest developments in education and research networks. The lectures and demonstrations focused on different themes such as the power of the internet, the importance of sustainability and delivery, the power of data analytics, the creation of smart complexity, and the network at the speed of science.

This year, RNP had an article approved at the event: A new approach to conceive user-focused services and solutions. The deputy director of Solutions, Antônio Carlos F. Nunes, presented the new approach of RNP in modelling services and solutions with the involvement of users. Nunes explained that the organization is promoting an innovative initiative through a pilot project that offers a new perspective on how academic networks can increase users' participation in service strategy and design to add value to the education and research community using the Design Thinking approach. The director showed the results achieved so far in the pilot project and those expected for 2018.

"We have had the opportunity to share with representatives of other academic networks how RNP is changing its way of designing new services and solutions, with users and other stakeholders at the centre of the process, as well as the challenges of scale, communication and sustainability involved", commented Nunes.

Another article presented at the TNC18 that was supported by RNP was about the AmLight consortium monitoring system, called SDN Looking Glass, which consists of a centralized network monitoring system (NMS), focused on the requirements of OpenFlow networks. Speakers showed this tool and some new features to monitor and troubleshoot software-defined network deployments (SDN). Members of RNP, one of the institutions that is part of the Amlight consortium, supported the preparation of the article approved for TNC. Click here to read the document.

In its 34th edition, TNC18 was also an opportunity to establish institutional contacts within a context favourable to the sharing of technical and administrative experiences.
