The Networked Cinemas project displays, next October 15, in eight rooms throughout the country, the feature film “Urutau”, of the Rio de Janeiro filmmaker Bernardo Cancella. The movie tells the story of Fernando, a shy and lonely teenager who lives since childhood confined in a small room in the house of Josias. In a commemorative day, the characters undergo extreme situations.

Urutau is an authorial independent project that took more than two years to be completed, without any support or sponsorship. Every resource invested was from the very director. According to Cancella, by using few actors and a single location, Urutau employs a minimalistic aesthetic. “Raising discussion about pedophilia, analyzing the relationship between the abuser and the victim, and the complexity of human behavior” he says.

The display results from the Networked Cinemas project, a cooperation between the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP) and the Ministry of Culture (MinC), which aims to connect the university cinemas and exhibitors to network infrastructure operated by RNP, thus facilitating access and exchange content for these rooms. The film screening of September 15 integrates eight partners cinemas: Cine Vila Rica; Cine Aruanda; Cine Arte UFF; Cune UFPel; CineUFSCar; Cine Metrópolis; Cinema UFBA and Cinemateca Brasileira.
