The Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC) launched a public consultation to debate the modernization of the governance structure of the Brazilian Internet. The contributions and suggestions must be informed and properly identified, and sent until 6 PM on September 8th through the website: http://www.participa.br/cpgovernancainternet

The proposal was formulated by a Interministerial Work Group coordinated by the Secretariat for Informatics Policy (Sepin) of the MCTIC. The RNP have been contributing to the discussions on the transformation necessary to the Enabling Axes, especially in Infrastructure and Research, Development and Innovation. After the consolidation of the public consultation, the final version will be published and sent to the Civil Office of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic, considering the improvement and development of legal and normative frameworks and new government programs.

The idea is to raise support to the modernization proposals of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), with questions on the competences of the multisector agency, its composition, the process for choosing representatives, and the use of mechanisms of transparency and participation in actions of the CGI.br. It is the first time this type of consultation is carried out in the internet governance area.

The MCTIC intends to find out the society’s opinion on the role of CGI.Br in the Brazilian Digital Strategy, and in the digital transformation process, of the productive sector and the State. The intention is also to get the approval to transform the Committee into an advisory body in the definition of public policies related to the development of internet and digital technologies.
