The investment foreseen for the construction of the submarine cable that will connect São Luís (MA) to Alcântara (MA) is in the order of R$ 10 million reais.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) announced yesterday, September 28, at an event in Alcântara (MA), the high-speed connection of the Alcântara Launch Center (CLA) through an optical route from Fortaleza (CE) to São Luís (MA), as a result of the partnership with the company Argo Energia. The project includes a redundancy with a stretch of sub-fluvial cable between São Luís (MA) and the Alcântara base. The event was part of the celebration of the 1000 days of President Jair Bolsonaro's administration.

In addition to the CLA, eight other institutions will benefit, public universities and federal institutes in the cities of Bacabeira (MA), Parnaíba (PI), São Luís (MA) and Alcântara (MA), plus @EBC and Hospital Sarah.

“It's important for us to have an internet that works for everything we do today. Within a year, this fiber optic cable will be working here, with high-capacity internet for the community, companies from Alcântara and nearby cities,” said the minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, astronaut Marcos Pontes.

The general director of RNP, Nelson Simões, participated in the event and highlighted RNP's role in connecting, with high-speed internet and capacity, more than 1,700 campuses of educational institutions across the country. According to him, thanks to the MCTI, this infrastructure will reach Alcântara and boost education, learning and innovation in the city.

“The talent is not only in large centers, it is out there, in different places”, highlighted Simões.
