- 03/07/2015

Brazilian and European assessors and representants of the Ministery of Science, Technology and Innovation (in Portuguese, MCTI) and RNP participated in the week of consensus meetings of the Third Coordinated Call Brazil-European Union in Information and Communication Technologies, between June 22 and 25, in the building of the European Research Council (ERC), in Brussels (Belgium). The aim was to select among 38 projects valid and submitted, which five will participate of the initiative: one in high performance development, another in experimental platforms, and three in cloud computing. The forecast is that the official results will be disclosed on August.

Each one of the 38 projects submitted in these topics received four assessments, two from Brazilians and two from Europeans. Considering the limit of six assessments per person, the process required 26 participants. The four assessors of each project were mediated in these meetings by agents of ERC or the Research and Development Center in Information and Communication Technologies (CTIC), with the purpose of achieving consensus about the final notes and comments within three criteria: excellence, impact, and implementation of quality and efficiency. After this stage, two other assessors verified if the notes and comments were coherent. Finally, all got together in a panel about the result deliberation.

“Although the selection of P&D projects is already a usual practice of RNP, it is a great opportunity to participate of a selection with ERC, an institution with only eight years of existence that reached a total of 5,000 provided projects, among more 50,000 assessed ones and a total applied resource of 9 billion Euros. The professionalism with which the selection is undertaken inspire us to enhance even more our processes”, explained the CTIC Projects Coordinator Wanderson Paim.

DGConnect Director Mario Campolargo and MCTI Policies and Sectorial Programs in Information and Communication Technologies Director Luanna Roncaratti finished the event reinforcing the importance of the cooperation program. They thanked and praised the assessors and the CTIC for the process conduction, presenting the list of approved works per subject.

The Brazilian delegation included the Analyst Ciro Ferreira, representing the Secretariat of Information Technology Policy (in Portuguese, Sepin/MCTI); the CTIC Director Lisandro Granville and the Projects Coordinator Wanderson Paim; Thalyse and Augusto Albuquerque by the European Union Delegation in Brazil, besides Luanna Campolargo and 13 assessors and specialists.
