About the movie
“Substantivo Feminino” is a feature-length documentary that rescues the story of two pioneer and essential women for the environmental militance in Rio Grande do Sul and in Brazil, who were internationally inserted in the movement to defend the Environment.
From traditional families circulating in political and social means, Giselda Castro and Magda Renner were mothers when they faced causes that mobilized them to beyond household limits. And they did not stay quiet before actions that threatened the Environment, animals and people.
The activists began promoting citizenship actions in 1964 together with the need and uninformed population through the Gaúcha Female Democratic Action (ADFG, Ação Democrática Feminina Gaúcha). By the work of Giselda and Magda, the ADFG became the Brazilian arm of Friends of the Earth (Amigos da Terra), an international organization of Environment protection, with representation in more than 70 countries. Since then, both have traveled the world in international conferences, in the UN and World Bank Group.
