Platforms developed by RNP evolve and provide new benefits to users

- 28/04/2022

Anyone who thinks that RNP's work is completed is wrong when the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) holds an event to launch a new platform developed by the organization. On the contrary! From that moment on, attention is redoubled to observe the experience and listen to users and, based on this information, seek a continuous evolution that provides more and more ease and benefits for those for whom the solution was developed.

The first example we bring to confirm this fact is the SiBBr. The Brazilian Biodiversity Information System built, implemented and operated by RNP integrates data and information on biodiversity and ecosystems from different sources, making them accessible for different uses.

This year, the solution gained a new functionality that expanded its scope of action. New datasets were included in the epidemiological surveillance platform of the National Network for Vigilance in Wild Animals (Previr MCTI Network). There are almost 20 thousand records of wild animal sample collection carried out in 18 months.

Data from the Previr MCTI Network, which is dedicated to epidemiological surveillance of pathogens in wild animals with the potential for an emergency for people, was quickly incorporated and made available in SiBBr thanks to the development of an application, which facilitates the recording and sending of collection information by the researchers during the field research. They record data such as species captured, location, date, method of capture, type of sample collected, sex of the animal, among others. This information, associated with the verification of the presence of viruses in the captured animals, makes it possible to monitor the increase in zoonoses in the different regions of Brazil. In addition, the availability of these data makes it possible to carry out other studies and conservation actions.

Before, SiBBr only had a set of data on fauna, flora and microorganisms, and now it also has a collection of virological incidences.

Another case of a platform developed by RNP in constant evolution is the AdaptaBrasil MCTI. The Information and Analysis System on the Impacts of Climate Change has the objective of consolidating, integrating and disseminating information that makes it possible to advance the analysis of the impacts of climate change, observed and projected in the national territory, providing subsidies to the competent authorities for adaptation actions.

Like SiBBr, the solution gained a new functionality in 2022 that took it to a new level. Health data were included to present indices and indicators that are influenced by climate change. At this first moment, information from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) referring to Malaria was entered. Other pathogenic diseases will be included gradually.

The evolution is in line with the guidelines that the World Health Organization (WHO) has been spreading about the need to direct evaluations and subsidies to policies and programs in the health sector to support decision-making. Having access to these indicators, professionals who define the guidelines for the prevention of diseases whose spread is directly impacted by the climate are able to prepare a prior planning of actions.

“We work with a focus on the development and promotion of digital solutions that directly contribute to the development of research in the country. The possibility of continuously identifying bridges between various initiatives, considering the needs of researchers, adds even greater value to these actions”, reports the director of Services and Solutions at RNP, Antônio Carlos F. Nunes.

To close the trio of solutions developed by RNP for the MCTI that evolved in the first four months of 2022, we bring the PNIPE MCTI. The National Research Infrastructure Platform aims to map and gather, in a systematic way, information about the research infrastructure in Scientific, Technological and Innovation Institutions (ICTs) in the country, enabling access to the scientific/technological community and companies to existing laboratory facilities and research equipment and promoting their shared use.

This year, a new functionality was added that allows the sharing of infrastructure between Brazilian research laboratories. The expectation is that the new possibility will contribute to fostering the innovation potential of research infrastructures, giving companies visibility of the opportunities offered to improve their products and develop new technologies in cooperation, increasing the interaction between the academic and private sectors and, consequently, the articulation between researchers and companies. So far, 120 laboratories have already joined the new functionality.
