- 03/05/2021

This Tuesday (04/05) at 12 pm (Brasília time), the national network for research and education of Chile, REUNA, will officially launch two new stretches of its high-speed optical network, connecting the cities of Arica and La Serena and Santiago and Valparaíso in an online event.

The meeting will be attended by the Minister of Science of Chile, Andrés Couve, the deans of the REUNA partner universities, and the ambassador of the European Union in Chile, León de la Torre, in addition to the representatives of the Chilean network, such as its Executive Director, Paola Arellano, and its president, José Palacios.

The inauguration of the two new stretches is part of the integration plan of the REUNA national project, along with the regional and international efforts promoted by RedCLARA and project BELLA in its terrestrial stage.

The milestone will increase up to tenfold the capacity of academic connectivity in these new stretches. In total, there are 2,863 kilometers in the digital route, with a capacity of 100 Gb/s in its core, reaching a total of 360,000 users from 19 universities, in addition to astronomy and research centers in the territory between Arica and Temuco.

Participation in the launch is free and open to the public in general.
