The Getúlio Vargas Hospital (HGV), in the City of Teresina (State of Piauí), gained a unit of the Telemedicine University Network (Rute). With the service, employees and patients will benefit from a high-capacity infrastructure for new tools of healthcare education, distance collaboration for tele-diagnoses, tele-consultancy and remote assessment of medical care information.

Coordinated by the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP), Rute is an initiative from the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC), supported by the Studies and Projects Financier (Finep) and by the Brazilian Association of University and Teaching Hospitals (Abrahue), which supports, implements and fosters telemedicine projects.

In the opinion of HGV’s planning assistant, Ana Célia de Sousa Aguiar, the expectation is for an improvement to the quality of the services provided by the Hospital. “What we seek is to develop, refine and standardize tele-education methods and technologies. The HGV is following a trend in the evolution of care that is already being developed in other healthcare centers”, she states.

In Teresina, the University Hospital (UFPI) and the Dona Evangelina Rosa Maternity Hospital (MDER) already have this mechanism for medium- and high-complexity cases, as well.
