- 12/11/2015

On November 5th, after an agreement was entered with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (in portuguese, Embrapa), RNP activated a 100 Mbps link, on a trial basis, in the Embrapa Mandioca and Fruticultura unit, located in Cruz das Almas, Bahia.

The service is provided to Embrapa from the head campus of the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), also in Cruz das Almas, from the Point of Presence of the academic network in the capital of the state, Salvador. The physical infrastructure of the link is made of the optical fiber of the provider that connects the institution to UFRB.

Negotiations for the activation of the link intensified during the last Network Technology Workshop (WTR 2015) from the PoP-BA, held in Salvador, on September 28 and 29.

According to the Supervisor of the Embrapa IT Center, Monica Sapucaia, the link will allow the unit to save hundreds of thousands of money annually, in addition to significantly contribute to the achievement of the results expected in the strategic planning.

The only decentralized Embrapa unit in Bahia, Embrapa Mandioca and Fruticultura conducts and coordinates researches that increase production and productivity, improve the quality of the products, decrease the production costs and enable the exploration of underused areas for cassava, citrus, banana, pineapple, mango, papaya, passion fruit and acerola.
