Researchers involved in the 5G-Range initiative, selected by the 4th Coordinated Call Brazil-European Union, presented the final results from the project to a panel of reviewers by videoconference on December 14 and 15. Among the successes of the project, there are the provision of internet to a school in the rural area of Santa Rita do Sapucaí (MG) and the use of drones to provide internet access in remote areas.

During the presentation, different use cases were demonstrated, involving use of drones to provide connectivity to users. These drones are connected to the 5G network and monitored by a monitoring system, both developed by the project team.

The panel was composed of two European reviewers and two Brazilian reviewers, in addition to the coordinators of the European Commission and RNP, Jorge Pereira and Lucas Bondan, respectively. “It is very gratifying to have been able to follow the evolution of the 5G-RANGE project up. The coordinators did an exceptional job transforming the suggestions and the criticisms received throughout the project into results. The project is now moving towards completion with optimistic prospect to use the obtained results in new projects”, Lucas Bondan says.

The event was held exceptionally virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The final evaluation of the project was initially planned for 2020 together with the project workshop of the 4th Coordinated Call and the Brazil-European Union Dialogue in Brasilia. However, with the postponement of the event to 2021, it was decided to carry the final review of the project out virtually.
