Ipê network availability index is the best ever registered since 2002

- 16/03/2020

The average availability index of the Brazilian academic network - Ipê chain - reached 99.95% in 2019, the best index ever registered until then, since it began to be measured in 2002.

The indicator is a sign of the network good functioning, since it is possible to measure the operation continuity, that is, time without interruption, of national and international transport and traffic services, which ends up influencing the performance, the capacity, the capillarity and the security of this infrastructure too, as well as its global integration today through direct international connections with the United States, Argentina and Chile.

The availability indicator is calculated by the percentage of data packs sent as a test answered by RNP Points of Presence - PoPs - within given period of time. In 2019, the index was 0.14 points above the set target.

The seventh generation project of the Ipê network, which made new high speed circuits feasible in the Northeast region, contributed to the good result of this indicator, mainly increasing the network availability index in Bahia, Pernambuco, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte.

The activation of the 1 Gb/s circuit between Ceará and Roraima contributed to the improvement of the availability in the North region, more specifically in the states of Roraima and Amazonas.

In addition to these two initiatives, RNP also contributes to the network availability improvement by means of two strategic actions regarding the maintenance of data centers and the revitalization of PoPs. “This index is really a reason for pride and satisfaction for all of us, because many people have contributed thereto. Now the challenge is to overcome it”, the Engineering and Operations Director of RNP Eduardo Grizendi stated.
