The Federal University of Tocantins (UFT) has adopted the eduroam service, which enables access to the secure wireless network in many institutions worldwide. The installation and setup process of the service was completed in the Palmas campus and in the rectory. Thus, the UFT users with institutional login can connect to the service in and outside the university.

According to the UFT, the eduroam will work in every campus of the university through a wireless network infrastructure comprised of 149 access points, which will later on be expanded to 100 access points.

Meet eduroam

The eduroam (education roaming) is world service of safe access to wireless internet, whose purpose is to facilitate the academic community roaming worldwide. Coordinated in Brazil by the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP), eduroam already reaches 110 education and research institutions in the country. In total, there are over 2,000 access points to the service in Brazil.

In addition to the security, the ease is another advantage of the eduroam network, which does not require numerous logins and passwords for users to connect. The user only needs to register and setup their computer, mobile or tablet to detect the wireless network automatically in any customer institution.
