Cybernetic safety startups close deals with accelerators

- 16/05/2018

Cybersecurity++ and Actions Security, two startups resulting from the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP) R&D program, closed deals with accelerators to proceed with the third and last stage of the Startup Brasil program. In this stage, the companies will receive financial resources and research grants, besides being able to participate in a number of events and activities promoted by the program, such as training and meeting with customers and investors for the development of their business.

Cybersecurity++ signed a memorandum of understanding with the Wayra Brasil startup accelerator, which has innovation hubs in ten different countries and is part of the open innovation program Telefónica Open Future. Actions Security signed a contract with the Jump startup accelerator, located at Pernambuco’s Porto Digital and which operates in the Information technology and Creative Economy sectors.

Actions Security develops tools to mitigate in real some types of cyber-attacks, such as denial of service (DoS). For the call of the Program Startup Brasil, the company submitted a WAF (Web Application Firewall) project to mitigate Web application vulnerabilities. “Over these first three months of the project, we will focus on the development of the tool, as well as the structuring of Actions making use of the courses and tutorials offered by the accelerator,” explains the coordinator Iguatemi Fonseca, who is also a researcher at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB).

Cybersecurity++ is a company specialized in systems for predicting cybernetic threats and of cybersecurity intelligence. The startup also provides risk assessment consultancy for public and private organizations. The company was created after participating in the EWS Working Group part of the RNP R&D Program between 2014 and 2016. “We are a startup that seeks to solve problems in open and closed communications, detecting security breaches,” explains the CTO of Cibersecurity++, Wagner Monteverde.

The Program Startup Brasil opened a call in August 2017, offering R$ 9.7 million reals in resources for 50 projects of starting companies with technological foundations and acceleration until 2018. Each startup will receive a grant of up to R$ 200 thousand reals from the Brazilian Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). The resources come from the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC).

In addition to this initiative, both startups also participated in the InovATIVA Brasil Program, offered by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) and the Brazilian National Sebrae.
